China High-Speed Rail

The easiest way to connect major cities on a first China trip.

China's high-speed rail network is often faster than flying once airport transfers and security are included. For routes like Beijing-Xi'an, Beijing-Shanghai, Shanghai-Hangzhou or Chengdu-Chongqing, trains are usually the smoothest option.

How to Book

Trip.com is the simplest English-language booking route for visitors. Use your passport details exactly as shown, because your passport acts as your ticket at station entry and boarding gates.

At the Station

  • Arrive 45-60 minutes early at large stations.
  • Expect airport-style bag security.
  • Use the passport/manual channel if automatic gates reject your document.
  • Check the station name carefully: many cities have multiple stations.

Which Class?

Second class is clean and good value. First class gives more space. Business class is excellent but expensive; use it only for long rides or when comfort matters more than budget.
